WELCOME TO
theKATOSPHERE
Hi, I'm Kathryn.
In the Philippines, we have a word, Kapwa.
It means we are all one and it reminds me of our shared humanity.
As a Filipina American storyteller, that's what inspires me, finding the stories that connect us to our roots, to each other, to home, and ultimately back to ourselves.
CHILDREN'S BOOK:
Kalayaan, Filipina Heroines of World War II
A children's book about nine Filipina women who fought, led, and sacrificed during World War II, and were never taught to us in school.
Read at the Philippine Consulate General of New York, WORD Bookstore, and the Michelle Obama Neighborhood Library.
Part of the permanent collection at the Filipinas Heritage Library in Manila.
PODCAST:
FutureAncestors.tv
Future Ancestors is a Filipino American multimedia platform and podcast rooted in storytelling, cultural identity, migration, and resilience. It's a space for the Filipino American who grew up between two worlds, asking the questions our grandparents couldn't and telling the stories our children deserve to hear. Every episode is a conversation about who we are, where we came from, and what we're leaving behind for the next generation.
SHORT FILM:
A Passage to Hope
I didn't make this film for an audience. I made it to move through grief and to celebrate women I knew who had a story to tell. For Women's History Month, I sat ten women down in front of my camera and asked them to share their story, what they did in response to the trauma they experienced, and how they found their way through it. What came out of it was a reminder that everyone has a story to tell, and that healing isn't a destination. It's a direction. There's power in the moment a story moves from silence into light. This film was my first step in doing that.
